AIS II: Here comes winter

Posted in cars on November 2, 2009 by srsbzns

Had the last little bit of drifting for the year up here on sunday.  Another private track day at Adirondack International Speedway.  Just me and some of the drift hustle Bros.

I would just like to state that the sky in this last picture and most of these pictures was not Photoshopped in anyway.  Sun set up there was beautiful.

Stay tuned for video of the event once it gets edited. I have fewer pictures this time because i spent most of the time with a HD video camera in my hand and setting it up for a few in car runs. Video will be editeed probly by one of the Drifthustle guys since my computer sucks.

There are more pictures to be seen here: http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y80/eghatchattack/AIS2/

Pucks, goals and heart

“There’s been times where, yeah, I have felt good and made some good plays, But I’ve felt like there have been guys around me, too. It all goes hand-in-hand. Goalies with good numbers always have guys who allow them to make reads. It’s plain and simple. You’re not going to be at the top of the league if you’re getting point-blank chances all the time. Goaltending doesn’t work like that. All NHL top-tier guys understand that it takes guys around you to perform at a high level.”  -Ryan Miller, Buffalo Sabres

I would just like to take a moment and discuss exactly what Miller is talking about here.  This year i have been skating in 3 seperate leagues and have witnessed first hand the sheer frustration of not having any defense at all in some cases.  I am by no means a star goaltender, I would consider myself mediocre at the very best but I can have great games if i have a defense that understands the game.  Last night I skated for the first time with a new league as a sub and had one of my best games of the year.  This wasn’t because I was having one of those unbeatable streaks but because I had a defense that worked with me.  I had guys asking me how I wanted them to play situations.  They were clearing the shooting lanes for me to see the puck and keeping shots out of the center and past the hash marks.  It made the game easy.

One of the biggest problems I am facing recently skating for pick-up and bar leagues is players don’t care.  They want the puck and they want to score but in the defensive zone they stand there.  Often time my own defense men screen me, or try to block a shot only to tip it and redirect it past me.  This is a huge issue.  Goalies can clock a shot and in general I find that i can get tip ins or redirects but when it’s off one of my own players, you’re just not planning for that scenario, so you’re not ready.  Players in these recent leagues don’t know anything about defense, they just know: get the puck and get it out.  The recent league I have huge issues with players allow opponents to crowd me in the crease. I can make the initial save but when I’m on one side and i have three opponents around me and my defense is just standing there that guy behind me has a great chance of putting a pass or rebound in.  I don’t understand how a lot of players can’t see this.

I’m in no way placing all the blame on these players, but its frustrating to be facing 30 point-blank shots or 20 three on ones in a game.  It’s frustrating to be putting in 100% and see your defense or offense coasting into the defensive zone or standing around.  To have pucks go in off your own men or to have a puck go in cause your own man ran into you in the crease or screened you on a shot.  They as defense are supposed to be clearing your view and unclogging the crease for you.  Let me block the shot its my job, just try to give me a clear view of the shooter.  This happened last night and it was a breathe of fresh air.  I saw probably 40 or so shots but  80% of them were simple straight forward shots easy to save and as saves stack up so does the confidence and as I play better the team plays better.

I just wish regular players saw this more or realized it.

SRS Movie Review: Paranormal Activity

Posted in Uncategorized on October 28, 2009 by srsbzns

Went to see this movie this weekend,  really wasn’t that stoked to see it but I felt i had to after all the hype its been recieving and reading a few mixed reviews.  Lots of people saying its the scariest movie ever and all this stuff.  Then more level headed people saying its not scary at all and all the other people are morons.

To start off let me clear something up for you, THIS IS NOT BASED ON A TRUE STORY.  This is a film mokumentary that was made for a 2007 film fesitval.  I also believe this film was designed for couples.  After watching the couple in the movie interact it is a very date-ish movie.  The entire time watching the film I remember thinking this is the perfect movie for a young budding  relationship.  Bring a new gullible girlfriend, get her scared and get her a little closer break the cuddle barrier for the first time.

The movie to me wasn’t scary as much as it was designed perfectly to build up moments and play on things we have all expirienced.  What got people into the move was the “demon” and how it did things we can all relate to.  A lot of us have homes that are dark and creeky at night.  Drafts make odd noises, shadows playing trick on our eyes, the wind might make a shutter bang against the house in the middle of the night and wake you up and for a moment you have that freaked out dazed sleepy “what the hell was that” feeling.  This movie was mostly that but to the extreme.  Add to that a good producer /director who are masters at building suspense and you have a movie that could freak some people out.

It wasn’t a bad movie at all.  Like I said guys take a girl and go to the late showing, she won’t want to go home alone. On a side night I thought the female in the movie was rather frumpy and chubby, so don’t expect to leave this movie sexually aroused in anyway.  If anything it’ll make you appreciate that the girl you brought with you isn’t a cow.

JZZ Update

Well its the offseason now and I’m actually still driving my SC around cause it hasn’t snowed here yet. Not really to much to report on it as i have had to spend alot of money on winterization.  Bought one of those pop up garages for it to store it at my parents house.  Don’t worry its rated for a snow load.

Other than that i have purchased two new fron calipers for the car.  Look for a werite up on painting them.  Not sure of the color yet.  And I also ordered two new bumper side marker lights since i some how lost one.

The Zee’s wing has been fully sanded and prepped for paint now.  Its sad cause I really liked the green color that the wing was, but painting the green wing white to match the car is alot cheap than painting the white car green to match the wing. lol

Really trying to get the car manual converted and ready to be used at a few drift events next year

A Great Conundrum

Posted in life on October 28, 2009 by srsbzns

Just think if he says my nose will grow and it doesnt he is lying and it will grow.
but if it grows then he is not lying so it shouldn’t grow.
If he is lying it will grow and therefore he is not lying and it shouldn’t grow.
    a great conundrum
